‘The Weave of Life - stories of community, change and challenge’
… is a collection of 30 unique narrative rugs by Tejsi Dhana Marwada and Samat Tejsi Marwada of Kutch in north western India. Father and son are the last ‘kharad’ weavers in the region; the work celebrates their culture and comments on issues facing traditional communities. Curator, Carole Douglas, has worked with the weavers since the 2001 earthquake. It is fitting that Bondi Pavilion hosts this event as it was from here that funds were raised to enable Tejsi’s family to resettle after the disaster.
