Discover the textile heritage of north western India

Join us as we retrace our trail-blazing journey into the traditional heart of Gujarat where time stops and tradition begins. Your journey will take you from Ahmedabad - city of kites, culture and the Calico Museum and into lesser-known regions. From Ahmedabad’s architectural and textile heritage to the textile mecca of Kutch, you will discover a unique range of hand printed, woven, embroidered, beaded, tied and dyed items created by traditional artisans from diverse ethnic roots. You will explore great collections in museums, galleries and the homes of experts. You will delve into textile heaven in local bazaars, markets, villages and studios. You will create your own pieces under the guidance of master artisans as you try your own hand at stitch, dye and print. Highlights include the International Kite Festival, a nature filled safari and cultural events designed especially for you. You will take home memories of extraordinary encounters, genuine hospitality and a textile heritage second to none.

‘As an embroiderer, I found Carole's tour of Kutch a wonderful experience. For me, the best part was sitting down with various artisans and seeing how they work. Often they stitch back to front from the way I do, but the sharing and the laughter while trying to understand each other's language made the journey one to remember. And of course, learning about another culture through food, festivals and traditions made the trip all the more memorable. This was the gentlest introduction to India that one could wish for.’
